Toby Low writes... Hi Bob, renewal as usual, and as usual the '55 is still not out of restoration!!! So, fingers and everything else crossed that it may be ready for a show next year. By the way, the photo of Tom Shanks '53 Convertible in the latest mag… surely it's not an Eldorado; the '53 had the first wrap-around windshield didn't it? Best regards Toby.
Well-done Toby. You have won the spot the deliberate mistake competition, the first prize being an unrepeatable opportunity - to wash and polish my car every week for a full 12 months. See, you get all the best prizes from the COCGB. It is actually a Series 62 Convertible and what a car. It's in beautiful condition and I wouldn't mind it stood in my back yard. Now, come on Toby, when is this '55 going to hit the streets? We need to see it out and about. Best of luck with it for next year's deadline. Thanks for writing.

Ken Barrie writes... Dear Bob, Thanks for the reminder that the subs are due. I was aware of the due date and was planning to forward them shortly. I was pleased to receive the Newsletter, at last. I was beginning to worry that something untoward had happened. Of course, as soon as I picked it up from the doormat, I read it from cover to cover. Normally, I spread out the reading of the articles to stretch out the pleasure. Please find enclosed, my cheque for this year's subs. Warmest regards, Ken.
Thanks for writing, Ken. Nice to hear from you again. Nothing untoward happening as far as I know. We are just late, again, getting the mag out. Some problem with e-mail transfer and computer cds or something. Apologies to everyone for that. Maybe the Ed will get the next one out early - sorry, on time. Glad to hear you are still enjoying the reading. Best wishes from everyone here.

IrisOlga Levers writes… Dear Bob Thomas, Enclosed is my renewal fee cheque for membership of the Club. Sorry for the delay in sending same. Hope this finds you and others well and Club thriving. I was sorry to hear that the Town Thornes show was not very well attended! Very sad. If I had been able and had someone else to come with me, I would have been there, God willing. As it was, there was not etc, etc - ce la vie! Anyway, I will endeavour to get there next year, honest! Best wishes. PS. Found out about the show from Ray Giles. Rang him about classic car insurance but mine is too young! Glad one of us is!! Ha! Ha!
Thanks for writing IrisOlga. That's one thing we do not ask for on the application form (age that is) but I bet you are not that old, and certainly young at heart. Your car might be young but you could still get limited mileage insurance for it. You could choose from 1,000 to 5,000 mile limits. I have it on my car and that's a 1997. Try a quote from one of these… M C Edwards Tel 0870-909-0911 or Footman James, Tel 0845-458-6756. Tell them you are a member of the Club and you might be surprised. Yes, it was a shame about last years show but, as you say, ce la vie. There is always another year. No show this year in the UK because of the Grand European in Zeebrugge, but there should be one next year, all being well.

Glyn Watkins writes… Dear Bob, Herewith cheque for membership 2006/7. Have sold my Cadillacs several years ago but I wonder if any member has an early '90s Eldorado Touring Coupe for sale… I feel a twitch coming on!
Aaaaahh the twitch! I know it well. That certain feeling you get when a Cadillac is required. Nothing else will cure the symptoms. No amount of drink or other dubious pleasures will curb that urge. I am afraid you are doomed, Glyn, so get the wallet out and put those demons to rest! I do not know of a '90s Eldo for sale at the moment, but if anyone out there does, you can contact Glyn on 0118-983-1788, and save him from those withdrawal symptoms.

Gary Skinner writes… Dear Sir, Please find enclosed cheque for £15.00 for renewal of membership. Sorry it's a couple of weeks late, but I'm sure you'll understand: doing shows, rallies and holidays, some things get left behind. Any chance of printing a picture of my car in the Club magazine, please? Cheeky I know, but you've got to try. The photo enclosed was taken at Rockingham Speedway at Corby whilst I was waiting to go round the track, courtesy of a friend of mine with the Pontiac Owners Club. Yours sincerely (In anticipation) G Skinner.
That old "Sir" bloke keeps getting the odd letter now and again. Don't know who he is but I will answer his letters. Thanks very much for writing Gary and we like cheeky so the photo has been whisked off to the Ed and no doubt is adorning a page near here as we speak. How did you get on round the track with your '62 Sedan? I once went round Donnington track with my old '64 Coupe de Ville. You don't realise how tight some of those corners are when you watch races on the TV. Makes for an interesting drive in a big car with less than taut suspension!!

Darren Beardon writes… Hello Bob. Hope you are well. I finally replaced the brake line after having loads of trouble finding a spanner that would fit the unions properly without rounding them off, in the end resorting to the good old mole grips. I had them made up by a company in Buckingham that I can recommend, Automec Equipment and Parts Ltd, at a very reasonable price of £10 for the rear crossover pipe. I took in the unions and hydraulic hose to ensure I had the correct fitment. Fellow members can contact them on 01280-822818. Anyway, enough of me waffling, please find attached picture of my 91 STS for the website.
Thanks for writing Darren, and I am very well thank you. For those of you who haven't guessed already, I spoke with Darren a while ago about obtaining brake pipes. Glad you got them sorted OK. What would we do without mole grips? They do come in very useful at times. The photos are already in the capable hands of the Editor so may well be on the website already.

Philip Kortvelyessy writes...
Dear Bob, Please find enclosed a cheque for £15 to cover my annual subscription to the COCGB. Although I no longer own a Cadillac, I still wish to remain a member of the Club and continue receiving the magazine. All the best for the coming year.
Well done Philip. It has never been a condition of membership that you own a Cadillac, despite the Club name. We are just very pleased that you wish to remain a member and stay in the loop, so to speak. You do realise that by receiving the mag and reading about Cadillacs that you are prone to get the 'twitch', (see Glyn's letter above). You won't be able to resist for too long, I'm sure. Best wishes and thanks for writing.

James Calligan writes... Dear Bob, Please renew my membership. I have now changed my Caddy to a '59 series 62 Convertible, reg XUL 6, once owned by Dianna Dorrs up until 1966 and originally supplied by Lendrum and Hartman in white. After being red, blue, yellow, green and black, it is now pink. I only have this poor photo for now, will send better ones when car is completed. I am looking for a fuel tank and a complete glass set for the car - would prefer green tint if anyone can help. Many thanks.
Wow James! All those colours, makes you feel dizzy! I would give Gary Darby a call for those parts. Tel 01268-735914. If anyone else can help James with this, give him a ring on 01482-215295 or 07747-015886. Look forward to seeing the completed car sometime. Thanks for writing James. Best of luck with it.

Iain Morrison writes... Apologies for the delay in renewing my membership. Still have the Seville much to my wife's annoyance. Running fine apart from the AC - not good in the hot weather we have been having. Cheers!
Thanks for writing Iain and no need for apologies. You were only a few days out. How on earth can a Seville annoy your wife or anyone else for that matter? I have been annoying my wife for years but the Eldo is always in her good books. You are right about the AC though. It would be good to get it working to make travelling more comfortable in such exceptional weather. Hasn't it been great!

Nigel and Shirley Farley write... Many thanks for an excellent Club. Apologies for not getting along to any events, although we did manage Helmingham Hall on 6th August. An excellent show, which has grown from 20 cars ten years ago to around 700 this year. Not many Cadillacs but plenty to look at all the same. It is certainly handy having such a show 3 miles down the road from us.
Some of these local classic car shows are getting really good turnouts these days. We have one locally in Wakefield, unusually held on a Friday afternoon and evening in July. I attended this year along with around 500 others. Not bad for a Friday afternoon. Around 25 yanks were there, 4 or 5 of them Cadillacs. The weather helps a lot and it was a beautiful evening. Thanks for writing Nigel and Shirley.
