Great magazine as usual, I found the Castrol oil article useful, especially as I have been toying with the idea of trying semi-synthetic oils as they are supposed to be better. I even bought a supply of mineral oil from Costco but never got round to changing it yet. Good job I didn’t after reading the article and shall stick to classic oil in future.
Less than two weeks before a friends wedding, 150 miles away, I fired up my 1959 sedan to discover a petrol leak from the carburettor! Panic or what, I rang a couple of committee members for the name of someone who might have a replacement carb off a scrap car, but the gentleman I was told to contact was on holiday in the States!
Then a quick phone call to Barry Duffy in Yeovil and a carb re-build kit was through my letterbox by return. A couple of days later the car was running better than ever – and the wedding went like a dream.
Many thanks and keep up the good work.
Thanks for writing Bill. It was an interesting article about oils. I have always been of the opinion that if you stick with the manufacturers specifications you won’t go far wrong. That applies to everything to do with the car, not just engine oil.

I have changed my Cadillac this year, trading in my CTS 3.6, after three and a half years, for a new 2.8 model that I collected in March. I enclose a photo of it and it is a mean machine with its 20” alloys! It is a superb car and the interior makes the old model appear really drab. The overall specification is second to none and I find it amazing that so few have been sold. That, I suppose, is down to GM’s woes and the importer going bust. Still, I have mine and wouldn’t swap it for anything else.
Thanks for that Geoff. Yes, I think you could say that the latest efforts by GM to re-launch Cadillac in the UK have been another disaster. It is such a shame, because the cars are such good quality. Have great fun with yours!

Please find renewal enclosed. I have thoroughly enjoyed my first year of Cadillac ownership and Club membership. Having acquired the STS on an impulse buy from E-Bay, it quickly moved into regular use covering over 10,000 miles in 12 months. Highlights have included the Brooklands event and a 10-day touring holiday in France. Apart from two services at Bauer Millett, the only expense has been to replace the very tatty aftermarket chrome wheels with a set of very good original alloys, again bought on E-Bay. Looking forward to another 12 months membership.
And another 12 months ownership, eh Shaun. Can’t beat touring on holiday in your Cadillac. I love it. By the time you read this, I will have been doing the same. Taking the car to Jersey this year. Haven’t been before but I may be blocking a few roads there from what I have been told. Thanks for writing Shaun.

Hi Bob, renewal as usual, and as usual the '55 is still not out of restoration!!! So, fingers and everything else crossed that it may be ready for a show next year. By the way, the photo of Tom Shanks '53 Convertible in the mag… surely it's not an Eldorado; the '53 had the first wrap-around windshield didn't it? Best regards Toby.
Well-done Toby. You have won the spot the deliberate mistake competition, the first prize being an unrepeatable opportunity - to wash and polish my car every week for a full 12 months. See, you get all the best prizes from the COCGB. It is actually a Series 62 Convertible and what a car. It's in beautiful condition and I wouldn't mind it stood in my back yard. Now, come on Toby, when is this '55 going to hit the streets? We need to see it out and about. Best of luck with it for next year's deadline. Thanks for writing.

Dear Bob, Thanks for the reminder that the subs are due. I was aware of the due date and was planning to forward them shortly. I was pleased to receive the Newsletter, at last. I was beginning to worry that something untoward had happened. Of course, as soon as I picked it up from the doormat, I read it from cover to cover. Normally, I spread out the reading of the articles to stretch out the pleasure. Please find enclosed, my cheque for this year's subs. Warmest regards, Ken.
Thanks for writing, Ken. Nice to hear from you again. Nothing untoward happening as far as I know. We are just late, again, getting the mag out. Some problem with e-mail transfer and computer cds or something. Apologies to everyone for that. Maybe the Ed will get the next one out early - sorry, on time. Glad to hear you are still enjoying the reading. Best wishes from everyone here.

Dear Bob, Herewith cheque for membership 2006/7. Have sold my Cadillacs several years ago but I wonder if any member has an early '90s Eldorado Touring Coupe for sale… I feel a twitch coming on!
Aaaaahh the twitch! I know it well. That certain feeling you get when a Cadillac is required. Nothing else will cure the symptoms. No amount of drink or other dubious pleasures will curb that urge. I am afraid you are doomed, Glyn, so get the wallet out and put those demons to rest! I do not know of a '90s Eldo for sale at the moment, but if anyone out there does, you can contact Glyn on 0118-983-1788, and save him from those withdrawal symptoms.

Hello Bob. Hope you are well. I finally replaced the brake line after having loads of trouble finding a spanner that would fit the unions properly without rounding them off, in the end resorting to the good old mole grips. I had them made up by a company in Buckingham that I can recommend, Automec Equipment and Parts Ltd, at a very reasonable price of £10 for the rear crossover pipe. I took in the unions and hydraulic hose to ensure I had the correct fitment. Fellow members can contact them on 01280-822818. Anyway, enough of me waffling, please find attached picture of my 91 STS for the website.
Thanks for writing Darren, and I am very well thank you. For those of you who haven't guessed already, I spoke with Darren a while ago about obtaining brake pipes. Glad you got them sorted OK. What would we do without mole grips? They do come in very useful at times. The photos are already in the capable hands of the Editor so may well be on the website already.

Dear Bob, Please renew my membership. I have now changed my Caddy to a '59 series 62 Convertible, reg XUL 6, once owned by Dianna
Dors up until 1966 and originally supplied by Lendrum and Hartman in white. After being red, blue, yellow, green and black, it is now pink. I only have this poor photo for now, will send better ones when car is completed. I am looking for a fuel tank and a complete glass set for the car - would prefer green tint if anyone can help. Many thanks.
Wow James! All those colours, makes you feel dizzy! I would give Gary Darby a call for those parts. Tel 01268-735914. If anyone else can help James with this, give him a ring on 01482-215295 or 07747-015886. Look forward to seeing the completed car sometime. Thanks for writing James. Best of luck with it.

Many thanks for an excellent Club. Apologies for not getting along to any events, although we did manage Helmingham Hall. An excellent show, which has grown from 20 cars ten years ago to around 700
or more. Not many Cadillacs but plenty to look at all the same. It is certainly handy having such a show 3 miles down the road from us.
Some of these local classic car shows are getting really good turnouts these days. We have one locally in Wakefield, unusually held on a Friday afternoon and evening in July. I attended this year along with around 500 others. Not bad for a Friday afternoon. Around 25 yanks were there, 4 or 5 of them Cadillacs. The weather helps a lot and it was a beautiful evening. Thanks for writing Nigel and Shirley.
